Cafeina Women's Group - Specialty Female-Produced Brazilian Coffee

Empowering Women in Coffee Production

The Cafeina Women's Group is a collective of 1,154 female coffee producers within the Cocatrel Cooperative in Tres Pontas, Sul de Minas, Brazil. Though they make up just 21% of the cooperative’s membership, these women are committed to producing high-quality coffee while increasing their influence in the industry.

Formed to highlight the exceptional work of female producers, the group fosters education, visibility, and participation in decision-making. They hold meetings every two months to share knowledge, build confidence, and create opportunities within the coffee-growing community.

Precision Processing for Superior Coffee

The coffee produced by the Cafeina Women's Group follows a meticulous process to ensure consistency and quality:

  • Harvesting:As is common in Brazil, coffee cherries are machine-harvested, ensuring efficiency and high yield.
  • Pulping:The harvested cherries are separated by grade, with nearly 100% of the mucilage removed during pulping.
  • Drying:The beans are carefully dried on patios for 7 to 10 days, with regular turning for even drying and fermentation.
  • Resting:The coffee is rested for 30 days before being hulled, enhancing the depth of flavor.
  • Preparation for Export:After resting, the beans are delivered to the cooperative, where they are prepared for export and international distribution.
